Overview

Bear Hunt has several levels where Bulls eliminate the Bears that protect the outposts. The game gets progressively more complex through the levels, with the final level having the Boss Bear that needs to be defeated to finish the game. Finishing the game enables players to mint an NFT as a reward.

What I worked on

  • Designing game systems and mechanics.
  • Level design from concept to grey boxing to final maps.
  • Maintaining extensive design and technical documentation.

The Design

Game Setting: an abandoned island occupied by enemies.

The levels in Bear Hunt were designed to promote exploration of the environment, adding a huge challenge to the gameplay by also ensuring non-linearity.

Design Intentions

  • Player Agency and Player Intentionality — players should make conscious choices with specific goals and expectations in mind.
  • Non-linearity, multiple solutions, and systemic gameplay.
  • Challenging map layout, gating, and structure.
  • Believably connected interiors and exteriors.
  • Relatively small gameplay set-pieces.
